SmartBay improves access to information for management and sustainable development of the diverse coastal and ocean resources in Placentia Bay.
Please be advised that we have been experiencing network difficulties since Friday evening, continuing into the weekend, which have affected buoy data and forcasts pages on our website. The SmartBay team is working to correct the issue and to have both the Placentia Bay marine forecast and the site-specific forecasts back online as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.
The Marine Institute is continuing the process of upgrading our servers in order to provide a better level of service. As a result, there may be temporary interruptions in buoy communications during the coming months. The SmartBay team apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause for our users. A notice will be posted once upgrades are complete.
SmartBay is in the process of expanding, through federal and provincial support through the Gateways and Border Crossing Fund, and is deploying met/ocean buoys in other ports around Newfoundland and Labrador. Stay tuned for meteorological and oceanographic information from St. John's and Channel-Port aux Basques later this summer.
